Klong Suan 100-year Market, Samut Prakan - Chachoengsao
It is one of the best 9 destinations in Thailand by BangkokPost in 2009. Chachoengsao is a sleepy provincial capital 80 km east of Bangkok. It is also known as “Paet Rio”. The name Chachoengsao is derived from Khmer and means deep canal, while the name of Paet Rio is believed to refer to the abundance of (dried) snakehead fish in the area which the locals would pierce into eight stripes before cooking / selling [“Paet” means eight and “Rio” means stripes ].

The Klong Suan 100 year old Market is situated on the banks of Prawetburirom canal and extends over two provinces: Tambon Thepparat, Amphoe Ban Pho, Chachoengsao Province and Tambon Klong Suan, Amphoe Bang Bo, Samut Prakan Province.
Chachoengsao covers an area of 5,351 sq km and is located on the Bang Pakong River.
Situated on the banks of Prawetburirom Canal, Khlong Suan Market lies in two provinces: Tambon Thepparat, Amphoe Ban Pho, Chacoengsao Province and Tambon Khlong Suan, Amphoe Bang Bo, Samut Prakan Province. This traditional market dates back to the reign of King Rama V. The market contains many different shops, which are getting rare these days, since they are increasingly being replaced by modern convenience stores and shopping malls. More than 100 years old, it still retains the quaint charm of the old days. Visitors will be pleased with the traditional market atmosphere while enjoying a great variety of tasty food.
